Creative Economies Africa

International Association for Creative Economies Research in Africa (IACERA)

The IACERA is a newly established international association of scholars and researchers interested in furthering research and collaboration around the ARUA/The Guild Cluster of Excellence (CoRE) “Creative Economies: Cultures, Innovation and Sustainability” for the following public benefit objectives:

  • To become an international point of reference for research on creative economies in Africa
  • To promote research collaborations across European and African universities and, where possible, beyond, addressing shared research challenges that aim to support the development of more equitable, innovative and sustainable creative economies.
  • To build capacity in creative economies practice and research through activities such as postgraduate student supervision, PhD workshops, the development of online courses and resources, and engaging with industry and policymakers.
  • To publish research focused on (but not limited to) the three CoRE themes: 1) Sustainable and inclusive CE business models and markets underpinned by technology; 2) Innovation, creative development and protection for cultural and creative producers underpinned by sustainability; 3) Heritage, communities, socio-cultural value and development models underpinned by inclusivity

The Association Board is constituted as follows:

  • Vice Chair: Prof Duro Oni (University of Lagos)
  • Secretary: Prof Jen Snowball (Rhodes University)
  • Board Member: Dr Eka Ikpe (King’s College London)
  • Early Career Researcher: Dr Vincent Obia (University of Lagos /Leverhulme Early Career Fellow researching AI and new media regulation at the University of Sheffield)
