The AHSCE South Africa is a collaborative project between King’s College London, University of Southampton, University of Nairobi, University of Lagos and the University of Witwatersrand, the South African Screen Federation (SASFED) and Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct. Its aim is to support the development of sustainable creative economies in Africa by fostering connections between higher education institutions and creative entrepreneurs, collecting and sharing career development stories, and strengthening the profile of research in creative economies. The focus of the South Africa Hub is film and media.

The lead project co-investigator in South Africa is Ms. Avril Joffe. Avril is the Post Graduate Coordinator of the Cultural Policy and Management Department at the Wits School of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She is an economic sociologist with experience in the field of cultural policy, culture and development and the cultural economy. The Creative Partnership Coordinator in Ms. Vuyo Madyibi. Vuyo’s background is in Radio, Film and Theatre as an actor, writer and director. She has worked for the National Arts Council of South Africa as a liaison and review and monitoring officer.

AHSCE South Africa also benefits from the support of SASFED (the South African Screen Federation) and Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct. SASFED is the national federation of independent film, television and audiovisual content industry organisations in South Africa. It was founded in 2006 in response to Government’s call for the independent production sector to speak with a united voice.

Tshimologong catalyses the transformation of Braamfontein into a premier technology destination to raise the profile of African digital innovation by inspiring new talent and addressing rising youth unemployment. As a university-based incubator, Tshimologong Precinct further aims to commercialise the research of Wits University students.
